A Letter from Pastor Clayton King
I've played sports my whole life. At age 35 or 36, my body began to ache, my joints began to hurt, and then I had another injury at age 38 where I separated three ribs.
I wasn't able to sleep. I was waking up every morning with numbness in both of my arms. I couldn't feel a large portion of my back. I went to different doctors, chiropractors and physical therapists, and literally could not find any relief.
And then through the recommendation of some friends, I discovered Maximized Living.
It's no exaggeration for me to say that it's one of the best things that has ever happened to me (besides meeting Christ at age 14 and marrying my wife almost 15 years ago).
I sleep great now. I wake up feeling refreshed, and I've got energy to write the books that God has called me to write, to prepare the sermons that I have to prepare on a weekly basis, and to travel over 200 days a year preaching to churches all across America.
So I want to encourage you as you think about what it means to be a part of the body of Christ.
Even in scripture, the idea of the body is so important. It was the body of Adam and Eve that felt the curse of the Fall. It's the body of Christ that we call the church. And it's through that body of Christ that the Gospel is taken to the whole world so people who don’t know Jesus have an opportunity to reach Him.
You know as a pastor that the health of your body, the body that you shepherd and the body that you lead in pasture, that's very important to you.
But if their physical bodies are sick, it's going to be harder for them to be spiritually well — even if they do know Jesus and experience his grace.
I encourage you to give [this] a shot. Look into Maximized Living. Look into how God made the body. And dig a little bit deeper into what can happen in your local congregation when you understand how the physical body works, and all of the symbolism between our physical bodies and the spiritual body of Christ that you were called to lead and to reach and to shepherd.
It has changed my life, and because I'm more energized now to serve Christ, the body of Christ is healthier. Imagine what it would be like if every pastor in America — starting with you — was energized and healthy, and had the rest and the energy they needed to complete the task that God has called you to complete.
And then imagine what it would be like if your congregation lived a healthier lifestyle, and if they had more energy when they come to hear you preach on Sundays.
I hope this has been an encouragement to you. I hope that your story can one day look like my story because my health and my walk with Jesus are better now because of how God has changed me through Maximized Living.
